We Can Prevent the Meltdown

Maintaining stability in a nuclear reactor, like the government comes down to three main parts, all equally necessary to safely generate power. The executive branch like the moderators, moderators maintain fission, increasing reactivity, creating more power. The judicial branch is like the coolant - while the coolant decreases reactivity, the coolant evaporating is what makes it possible for the power generated in the core to be carried out and used. In a reactor there are many control rods that move in and out to balance the reactivity, not too much, not too little. The legislative branch, the Constitution, and with that the freedom of speech all act as control rods. MAGA is working hard to remove each of these control rods and burn up the coolant because without them the speed of dismantling and reshaping the government accelerates. With every rod removed the country becomes increasingly unstable, making the likelihood of reactor runaway and an all out meltdown dangerously high.

The volatile MAGA government, like a nuclear reactor, can be intimidating. The fury and power feels beyond mortal control. The small metal control rods, when used together can keep the powerful fission reaction at bay. Here at The Control Rod we believe everyone's voice is important regardless of experience in the political world. We are looking for writers of all backgrounds with an interest in politics. 

Politics can feel inaccessible and at times, boring. The Control Rod seeks to give people a new way to connect and engage with politics. We do this by taking any topic the writer is interested in (like nuclear reactors) and finding the comparisons to these current events. Contributors will be asked to write one article a week. Articles can be either an under 700 word quick read on that week's breaking news, or a 700 plus word deepdive which will be posted over the weekend.
