Poppy Bloom - Will the Anti-Trump Movement Last?

Every spring the hills of Southern California turn a beautiful orange, as the state flower blooms. Bringing life to the barren golden hills. The same hills that bring so much destruction through the winter in the form of flash floods and mudslides, and will again wreak havoc as they burn through the summer. The never ending cycle of death, rebirth, and life. Everything exists in a cycle - the fiery hatred they felt for Biden and the democrats, washed away by Trump mudslides caused by him “flooding the zone with shit” - Steve Bannon. Then this past weekend we saw the poppy bloom, in the form of the Hands Off/ 50501 protests.

“Hands off”, part of the 50501 organization, is a political movement created in response to the Trump administration and Elon Musk’s complete take over of the government - get their hands off. On Saturday April 5th over 1,400 protests took place across the United States. Some locations, like Los Angles, drew crowds in the tens of thousands. Among the protesters there were many Trump voters, realizing they aren’t getting what they voted for. Trump’s flooding is destructive but it also brought the water that allowed for these flowers to bloom, bringing hope that the MAGA movement will dry up now that the sun has come out.

Four years is a long time, it is more than likely that Trump’s volatility will ebb and flow and with it, the strength of the movement against him. The fires will inevitably burn away what has grown but it always comes back. Taproots are what allows the poppies to come and grow every year. After the flower disappears, the roots are still very much alive underground. Don’t lose hope if the fight slows, and the protests die down. The roots have been planted. After each flood, the flowers will bloom once again.
